Project Overview

Goals: Redesign the Mobile App YachtWave – a Yacht & Boat Management App for Boat Owners. They require a new look/feel and a better way to convey and organize a bunch of data about each boat/vessel. Must show Dark / Light Mode options.

Pain Point Analysis

Complex Navigation and Information Overload:

Both boat owners and marina managers like Sarah may experience confusion due to complex navigation and information overload in the app.

Limited Weather Information:

Users struggle to access comprehensive and real-time weather forecasts within the app, making it challenging to plan safe and enjoyable sailing trips.

Lack Visualization:

Most of the current design uses a list approach, which lacks visualization and is not intuitive to use.

PERSONA

The purpose of creating two personas is to understand and represent distinct user profiles, enabling a more targeted and user-centered approach in designing and tailoring products or services to meet their specific needs and preferences.

Competitive Audit

The purpose of conducting a competitive audit is to gain insights into the competitive landscape, identify key market players, assess their product offerings, and analyze their strengths and weaknesses.

User Flow

The purpose of creating a user flow is to visualize and map out the sequence of interactions and actions that users will take within a system or application, helping to design and optimize the user experience for efficiency and effectiveness.

Prototype

The low-fidelity prototype connected the primary user flow of yacht and task details, so the prototype could be used in a usability study with users.

Research Plan

In order to conduct better user testing, I started by outlining a research plan that included research objectives, KPIs, interview scripts, etc. It clarifies the usage flow I want to test and will allow me to get better results.

User Test & Insight

The weather function is not intuitive:

INSIGHT: Redesigned the weather module on the homepage, as well as the internal interface. The modules of the internal interface should be clearer and more concise so that the user can see all the main information at a glance.

Delay when creating new yacht:

INSIGHT: Simplify the yacht information to be filled in, so that the user can add a new yacht by filling in only the most important information. After that they have the option to enter details. Make the page more visual so that users don’t get the feeling of “information overload”.

Unable to create a new task:

INSIGHT: Redesigned the interface for creating tasks so that users can go directly to the interface right from the bottom navigation bar. Also, the user has the option of selecting a specific vessel to create a task.

Colour

Because the client requested that the interface must be designed for both normal and dark modes, I specially redesigned a set of low-contrast colors for the interface of the dark mode, so as to improve the overall visual perception.

Register & Login

Just fill in the basic information and you can log in or create a new account. All information will be synchronized to the cloud for this account.

Weather

The new Weather feature allows you to check the weather conditions, wind conditions and other information for the next few hours before you sail, for your every voyage.

Dashboard

The main interface has been redesigned to make it easier for users to view and manage their boat data, information and maintenance logs. And it now supports one click to start recording your every voyage.

My Yacht

My Yachts information can be viewed directly from the homepage, and after tapping on the page, the yachts are categorized in a redesigned way to be more visually appealing at a glance.

Community

A simple community can fulfill the needs of sharing information and exchanging experiences among users. Meanwhile, the interspersed message board function also allows managers to communicate with employees or deploy tasks more easily.

Start adding your new yacht with just one click. The information screens of the yachts have been redesigned, organized and categorized so that users can get clearer information about different yachts.
